Approbation

> Expression of warm approval; praise (often given by a formal group)
> An obsolete word used for “proof”

Approbation is similar in meaning to “approval,” and it is also very close to “approval” etymologically. Both words trace back to the Latin verb approbare which means “to prove” or “to approve.”

Example

She looked for some sign of approbation from her parents, hoping her good grades would please them.

The company has even received the approbation of its former critics.
